New eBook: Antibodies in Neuroscience Research

Defining the process by which neuronal activity represents sensory information and produces behavior is a primary goal of neuroscience. Neurons with similar characteristics have similar behavioral functions. Antibody-based immunohistochemical procedures provide means to classify neurons by anatomical location and protein expression. Antibodies play an important role in both well-established and cutting-edge neuroanatomical studies. These studies provide some of the first insights into the neuronal basis of behavior. Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

Huntington's Disease

TBI is damage to the brain caused by a jolt or blow to the head. Automobile accidents, sports injuries, and assaults are some of the common causes. Concussion, Contusion, Diffuse Axonal Injury, Hematoma, and Traumatic Sub-arachnoid Hemorrhage (tSAH), are the 5 types of TBIs. Learn more Huntington's disease, a neurodegenerative disorder is a result of the altered 35 kDa protein Huntingtin and its abnormal interaction with other proteins, also called Huntingtin-interacting proteins (HIP).
These include GAPDH, HAP1, HIP7, HIP2. Learn more

Parkinson's Disease (PD)

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)

A neurodegenerative disorder that affects the dopamine-producing neurons present in the substantia nigra. Mutations in SNCA, PARK3, UCHL1, and PARK8/LRRK2 result in autosomal dominant PD, while mutations in PARK2, PARK7, and PINK1 result in autosomal recessive PD. NR4A2 and SNCAIP have been identified as susceptible to PD. Learn more

This also called Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a motor neuron disease where one loses control over muscle movements due to dysfunctional nerves. The exact cause of ALS is not clear, though some familial ALS is due to mutations in Superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1). Learn more
